Kurt Weill: 2012, But the days grow short ...  (Performing Arts (Dance, Music, Theatre, ...))

DIRECTOR Melanie Helton
With twelve-piece orchestral ensemble

Long ago, the Mayans predicted that the world will end on December 21, 2012. But there have been many times in human history where the world seemed destined for disaster. Through the music of Kurt Weill, MSU Opera Theatre embarks upon its first experiential piece of music theatre. Audience members will be immersed in a theatrical experience where they will find it difficult to separate reality from theatre. Through Weill's short opera Mahagonny Songspiel and songs from The Threepenny Opera, Happy End, Knickerbocker Holiday, Street Scene, and Lady in the Dark, among others, patrons will join in a journey from despair to hope, from isolation to community. Don't miss this opportunity for a new and highly theatrical evening, featuring the stirring and beautiful songs of a composer who fled Hitler for the freedom of America. Sung in English. A preview lecture will be held 45 minutes before each performance.

This performance is funded in part by the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music, Inc., New York, NY.

Reserved seating. TICKETS available from Wharton Center Box Office only, (517) 432-2000, (800) WHARTON.
